Renovating Your Theatre Space
The Pantages Theatre, Sachs Morgan’s project with Nederlander and Disney, has become the crown jewel of Hollywood’s theatre scene.
The 1984 renovation of the 100-year-old Wheeler Opera House resulted in a multipurpose auditorium for drama, dance, and music, which echoes its original Victorian character. The intimate space provides a technically flexible stage, and a new wing provides support space, dressing rooms, and rehearsal studios.
Twenty years after the renovation, the Wheeler continues to be the center of Aspen’s art scene with more than 300 events annually. It has something for everyone, from internationally recognized artists to local community performers.
Built in 1924 for vaudeville and silent movies, the Earle Theatre, as it was originally known, kept vaudeville tradition alive in Washington until 1945. When Harry Warner (one of the original Warner Brothers) visited the theatre in 1947, he decided to put his name on the marquee, and there it has remained.
In the 1970s the theatre suffered from inner-city neglect until Joey Kaempfer and his real estate development company undertook a comprehensive renovation and expansion. Now the theatre, located at 13th & E Streets NW, houses Broadway, special music, dance and concert events, and is often hailed as the most elegant and comfortable venue in downtown Washington.
The Sachs Morgan Studio seating plan features VIP accommodations—known at the Warner as Grand Suites—located within the first four rows of the balcony and featuring extra large theatre chairs and granite cocktail tables.
